Gervasia Archer is a dedicated educational consultant, speaker, and licensed natural hair specialist committed to empowering schools in fostering cultural inclusion, hair equity, and self-esteem. With a Human Services degree and over 15 years of experience in youth advocacy, counseling, and community outreach, Gervasia is trained in trauma-informed care, mental health, and cultural competency. She has also served as an Abstinence Educator for Grades 6-8. Through this experience teaching students to abstain from sex, substance use, and bullying, as well as emphasizing self-esteem and self-care, she discovered her passion for being in the classroom.
In 2012, she founded Butterfly Naturals, LLC, merging her love for natural haircare with her educational background. Gervasia’s first curriculum, “I Love Your Hair,” instructs K-12 students on African hair history, self-affirmation, and cultural pride, along with practical skills for caring for their natural hair. Building on this work, she developed the “Love Your Crown, Grow Their Crown, Respect Their Crown” series—a 3-part, year-long school curriculum designed to help educators, parents, and students create inclusive, CROWN Act-aligned policies that promote hair equity and respect.
Through professional development workshops focused on hair equity, hands-on training, and curriculum support, Gervasia partners with schools to cultivate culturally inclusive environments that embrace students with diverse hair textures and cultural backgrounds. Her collaborations with schools and districts aim to implement workshops and training that foster cultural competency and a supportive school climate for all students.
